Become a Knights Templar!

Right Eminent Grand Commander, Sir Knight Dock F Dixon, welcomes you to the Official Web Site of The Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Texas. Please take your time while browsing our pages and come back as often as you like. Telling you about Masonry in general, and York Rite Masonry in particular is our goal. If you have an interest in joining our great fraternity, contact any York Rite member. He'll be glad to provide you with a petition for the degrees of York Rite Masonry and help you fill it out. The only requirement is that you be a Master Mason in good standing with your local Masonic Lodge.

We have received the following decision from our Patriotic & Civic Activities Committee:
SK Koon Grand Master-
Your Patriotic and Civic Activities Committee has met via e-mail and after several discussions, interviews with military, active and retired, research into the proper protocol for the hand salute during the Pledge we have determined the hand salute should be given at the beginning and held until the end of the Pledge.
We, therefore recommend the adoption of this protocol for the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar of the United States of America.

SK Wayne Dee Jordan, PGC KCT, Chairman
SK Brad Huffman
SK Ronald Maslo
SK Leonard Bibler
SK Blaine Simons
SK Fred Troxel
SK William Ellis For that reason, I issue the following Grand Master’s Decision: Koon 1: Following the recommendation of the Patriotic and Civic Activities Committee, proper etiquette during the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States flag, while in any Templar Uniform will be to come to “Hand Salute” at the beginning of the Pledge of Allegiance, and continue holding in that position until the Pledge has been completed.
Department Commanders, please forward this to the Grand Commanders in your Departments, and I ask that Larry Tucker please distribute it to the Grand Recorders. I would further ask that Dan Pushee send this out to his e-mail list, in order that we spread the word as thoroughly and quickly as possible.
As is usual, a Grand Masters’ Decision is effective immediately. No Grand Commandery has the authority to vary from this procedure regardless of the wording of their tactics at the present time.
Fraternally,
Bill
Grand Master, Grand Encampment of Knights Templar
Supreme Magus, High Council, SRICF

Why A Knight Templar?

The Chivalric Orders are a set of three Orders (Degrees) in this body; Order of Red Cross, Order of Malta and Orders of the Temple. These orders are founded upon the traditions of the Chivalric Orders of Knighthood of the middle ages, and the Rite has therefore acquired the title of Chivalric Masonry.

In one of the grandest and most impressive ceremonies in all of Masonry, the true capstone of the YORK RITE, the candidate represents a knight, who has made a vow to visit the Holy Sepulcher, and who seeks admission into the ranks of the Templars. Beautiful lessons of our Savior are inculcated, and the candidate is at last received into full fellowship in a most solemn manner.
