January is the month we make new resolutions that we soon break or forget. I would request that the Sir Knights of the Grand Commandery of Texas step up and make a couple of resolutions for this year of 2003 which could improve the work of our fraternity. I hear you saying "what can I do?"
The first resolution that I would like for each of you to make is "I will give at least 10% more than I gave in 2002." If you attended ten Lodge, Chapter, Council, or Commandery meetings in 2002, make it your goal to attend eleven meetings in 2003. If you contributd $10.00 to the Knights Templar Eye Foundation in 2002, dig down in the sock and give 10% more or eleven for 2003. We could make Sir Knight Kenneth Fischer smile I am sure, if we all gave 10% more and the Voluntary Campaign for 2003 is increased by 10%.
The second resolutinon that I would like for each Mason in Texas will make is to get two men to petition our fraternity in 2003. It is our obligation to get someone to replace ourselves and get just one more to make the fraternity grow. Remember Jimmy Willson's ten two-letter words, "If it is to be, it is up to me." The future of the Masonic Fraternity is up to Masons and how they meet their obligations.
The third resolution that I would request all York Rite Masons to make is to attend the York Rite Conference nearest to you. The Grand Commander or his personal representative will be in attendance at each conference. This is your opportunity to hear the leaders of the York Rite share ideas with you and more importantly for you to share with your leaders what you believe needs to be done to improve the fraternity. The list of conferences will follow this message.
Lets all work together to make 2003 a great year for Masonry in Texas. Please start to make plans to attend the Grand Commandery Conclave in Midland in April. We have planned an enjoyable time for all Sir Knights and their ladies.
The Waco York Rite Bodies will have festivals on Saturday, February 1, 2003, and Saturday, September 27, 2003. Registration starts at 7:00 A.M.; degrees start at 8:00 A.M. Contact John Spann or Walter Matyastik (254) 756-1421.
